Caritas Australia Project Compassion Fundraiser

On St Patrick’s Day Friday 17 March, St Michael’s went GREEN! It was wonderful to see everyone get into the spirit of the day wearing a wonderful array of green and giving generously. Together we raised $145.20 for Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion Campaign. The aim of their work is to address world poverty through education and equipping the poor and vulnerable with resources to help them live with dignity. You can continue to support this campaign by continuing to put money into the Project Compassion Boxes that were sent home to each family on Ash Wednesday and returning these to school at the end of this term or in the first week of Term 2. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile cause and working towards ending poverty in our world.

Feast of the Annunciation

Today at Mass we celebrated the Feast of the Annunciation which is tomorrow 25 March. On this day we remember and celebrate the Archangel Gabriel visiting Mary to announce that she had been chosen to be the mother of Jesus.

Paul Burton Visit

NSW State President of St Vincent de Paul, Paul Burton will visit St Michael’s on Thursday 30 March to talk with students about the work of St Vincent de Paul and Mini Vinnies. We welcome Paul and look forward to finding out more about the great work that St Vincent de Paul does in our community.

Holy Week

The final week of Term 1 is Holy Week, the most important week of the year for Christians. Sunday 2 April is Palm Sunday when we remember and celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem when people waved palm leaves and welcomed him as a king. The last day of Term 1 Thursday 6 April is Holy Thursday. On Holy Thursday we remember Jesus’ last supper with his friends. On this night Jesus washed his disciples' feet as a sign of love and service and that they and we should live lives of love and service to one another. After supper Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane to pray and his disciples kept falling asleep. Here Jesus was arrested and taken away by the soldiers. On Good Friday 7 April, we remember that Jesus gave his life for us. Jesus was put to trial, tortured, crucified and died on the Cross. Holy Saturday 8 April, is a time of waiting. Jesus’ body is in the tomb. On Easter Sunday 9 April, we celebrate Jesus rising to new life. As we all enjoy our Easter Eggs on Easter Sunday, let us take some time to remember that the egg is a sign of new life and on Easter Sunday we celebrate Jesus rising to new life.
