Week 10 Term 1

Dear Parents and Carers,

Congratulations to our Year 3 students who last Thursday night gathered with their families to celebrate their first Reconciliation (the Sacrament of Penance). Thank you to Annette Gasbarro and the Year 3/4 students for preparing the children and to Fr Linh and Fr Tran for celebrating this Sacrament and making it a memorable occasion for all.

Year Six and 2023 Foundation Buddy Mass

Yesterday, the Year Six students and 2023 Foundation families and students gathered at 11:00 am mass to celebrate mass together. The Buddy Mass was an opportunity to formally introduce the Foundation families to the Year Six families as part of our Buddy Program. The purpose of a Buddy Program is to support a smooth transition for children starting school. The Buddy Program also benefits the older buddy in acknowledging their leadership, responsibility and pride in their ability to be helpful.

The goal of the Buddy Program is to develop relationships between younger and older children, enhancing the sense of belonging to a friendly, supportive school community. Yesterday also marked the completion of the Foundation transition program, which began last year in October with the beautiful Parent Spiritual evening facilitated by Maria Forde and a transition program that gave the incoming students four school experience sessions before formally beginning school in 2023.

Yesterday, the 2023 Foundation students were presented with a Buddy Bear which had a written promise from their Year Six buddy to always care for them and watch out for them.

Some children were unable to attend but they will be presented with their bear this morning at our Monday morning assembly. Thank you to all the families that attended and to Mrs Wenckoski and Mrs Gasbarro for their organisation and for making this a memorable occasion for your children.

Parent & Carer Reminders Protocols: Expectations of Parents

  • Remember to respect staff's personal time. Parents shouldn’t send emails outside of work hours and expect an immediate response.
  • Please only send non-vital messages by this medium. For example, do not use email to inform a teacher that your child is not to go home but to go to after-school care that afternoon, as the teacher may not see the message in time. Remember that given work demands teachers may not get to read emails until late in the day.
  • Please don’t seek to discuss in detail your child’s academic progress, learning expectations, or behavioural issues via email. These are best addressed over the phone or in person.
  • Please do not attempt to speak to your child's teacher during drop-off time. Teachers are busy preparing for the day ahead. If you do require a meeting please email the teacher.
  • Please encourage your child to carry their own school bag, enter their classroom on their own, unpack their bag and proceed with the class and begin the morning routine. We are trying to develop the student's self-management skills and your support will be greatly appreciated with this request.
  • Emails that are intended for the office staff should be sent via the school’s email address, that being: admin@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au

Sibling Enrolments for 2024

If you have a child commencing Foundation in 2024, please enrol your child by the end of March so we can determine how many places will be available to new families for 2024. Collect your enrolment forms from the school office or download them from our website.
