Dear Parents/Carers,
MANGAHIGH.com is a game-based learning site in which students play math games as a fun way to learn new concepts and apply knowledge. Games cover certain learning topics and are sorted by ability and grade level. They are designed to adapt in difficulty to the ability of the student, keeping the student in their zone of proximal development.
Mangahigh.com provides an exciting supplement to traditional math pedagogy through the use of “games that provide powerful contexts that often bring out the ‘real-world’ application of the topic at hand, thereby increasing the students’ interest in the content and encouraging them to explore further”.
Teachers can assign “Challenges” to the students which are specific exercises that can be assigned to individual students or classes including differentiating for student needs. Teachers can set “Prodigi” lessons or games as challenges to promote mathematical thinking and reasoning.
We will be using Mangahigh within the classroom and for assigned homework tasks for the 2023 school year in conjuction with other learning resources and experiences.
The image linked below explains the Mangahigh process. Point #4 of the process speaks about 'Reviewing mistakes before repeating' an activity. Ensuring that students review their mistakes can have a dramatic impact on their success on Mangahigh. By reviewing mistakes and applying their learning in their next 'round' of Prodigi attempt, we help students changetheir relationship with mistakes - as now it is in the centre of their learning - closing the loop between mistakes and learning.
Continue to encourage your child to love Mathematics!
