Junior School Council

Junior School Council – A Democratic Approach

By Isabella from 6A

On Monday 20th of February, students from Grade 3s, 4s and 5s who chose to nominate themselves for a Junior School Council (J.S.C.) role, presented their speeches to their grades.  Students received their applications a week before, so they had time to prepare.

All student leaders walked around each classroom to listen to student’s speeches.  We used a voting ballot with the applicant’s names on it and joined in the voting.  The voting was a simple First Past the Post approach where the students and teachers just had to would tick the one name that they thought gave the best speech.

Voters placed their voting card in the ballot boxes to get counted.  Every student gave great speeches, so the voting wasn’t easy!  Every student who applied should feel really proud of themselves for their efforts and courage, so congratulations to all applicants.

Congratulations to the following students and on behalf of the Grade 6 Student Leadership Team, we welcome them to Mackellar’s Junior School Council:

3A – Katie, 3B – Stella,  4A – Zamaima, 4B – Jesse, 5A – Jackson, 5B – Antoinette
