Resource Centre

The Resource Centre is hosting a special display over the next two weeks focusing on climate change in light of the latest United Nations IPCC Climate Change Report which has been released this week. This display reflects issues such as the environment and sustainability, waste, renewable energy, degradation, how to reduce our carbon footprint in different aspects of our lives and the importance of the knowledge of our First Nations People in looking after the land and our planet. It is an opportunity for members of the College community to delve deeper into the issue of sustainability and consider ways in which we, as individuals and communities, can make positive changes for the environment in which we live.

The latest United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Synthesis Report makes it clear that “Humanity is on thin ice and that ice is melting fast”. "We have never been better equipped to solve the climate challenge, but we must move into warp speed climate action now." Antonio Gutuerres, Secretary General of the United Nations.

The land is my mother. Like a human mother, the land gives us protection, enjoyment, and provides our needs-economic, social and religious. We have a human relationship with the land: mother, daughter, son. When the land is taken from us or destroyed, we feel hurt because we belong to the land, and we are part of it”. Reverend Dr Djinyini Gondarra OAM (senior Yolngu Elder, Ceremonial Lawman and Clan Leader of the Dhurili Nation of Northeast Arnhem Land.
