We have two more chances to connect this term: Cross Country and Weeding/Pizza night. Find a friend to volunteer with for Cross Country and cheer on your child! Come and weed Yakai Baring and/or bring pizza to cook on the Pizza Oven!
The Trivia Night is coming up next term for the grown-ups! We need YOU to help decide on our theme for the night - choose between “Carnivals” (eg Rio, Venice, Pride, New Orleans, Carnie folk…), “The Future” (eg future fashion, future world, future you) or “Musicals” (Eg Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Xanadu, Hamilton, Matilda…). Later this week there will be three jars at the office - buy tokens for $1 each at the office and put them in the jar to vote for your favourite theme.
Cross Country
We are looking for 10-15 volunteers between 9am-10:30am to help out with the grade 3-6 Cross Country on 17 March. We need people to chalk the course so the runners know where to go, and then during the race we need some adults to help keep people safe and on the right track (and to cheer them on!). Please add your name here so we know we will have enough volunteers.
Trivia Night
We are setting up a small team to organise the Trivia Night next term. For the trivia team we will need people to plan decorations, set up bookings, arrange running sheets, and coordinate the bar. It will involve working together during the first 5 weeks of term 2. It’s a great way to get to know other parents and carers at the school! We will also need people on the day to set up, serve and pack up. Please email us at cet@brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au to let us know you’re keen or clarify the possible time commitment.
Grade 3-6 Cross Country - 17 March: we need parent helpers 9-10:30am to help Tom keep the kids safe and on the right path. (years 3-6)
Pizza Club - 31 March: come along with your pizza ready to cook or prepare and bake it in the community pizza oven! Meet some new friends or bring your old ones. Note that pizzas will not be for sale - it is just a chance to use the pizza oven together.
Trivia Night - 27 May: our super-fun night of trivia, dancing and fancy dress - find a babysitter and put it in your diary now!
Winter Solstice - 21 June: an end of semester whole-school celebration and get-together.
Working Bee - Thank you so much to the following people for coming to our first working bee of the year:
Seamus (Ramona); Tamsin & Harper; Phil, Beck & Ruby; Sarah & Goldie; Peter (Aurelia), and a big thank you to Philippa for organising the event.
Very few people did an amazing amount of work so thank you so much for getting our food garden in shape!
Please consider coming to the next one, even for an hour – many hands make light(er) work 😉
Weeding - 31 March: come and tidy up Yakai Baring to get ready for new plants! Bring some pizza to cook and share it afterwards!
This grant will help us continue to realise the vision for Yakai Barring and give the school community more of an opportunity to share in this living outdoor education space!
Yakai Barring (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung for ‘Surprise Track’) was established in 2015. This more than 3,000 sqm site was previously a bitumen dumping ground but with the aid of a $200,000 grant and following an intensive design process, approximately 3,500 Indigenous plants were planted to transform the space. The vision was to rehabilitate the site to be more like what it would have been hundreds of years ago - a natural undulating creek bed environment. The Landcare grant will help to fund purchase of more Indigenous plants and student incursions to learn more about biodiversity and undertake planting between now and July. Unfortunately weeds continue to be prevalent in Yakai Barring and a BIG effort is needed to keep these under control so that new plants can thrive.Saturday March 4th is our first working bee for the year - Meet at the productive garden 9:30 - 12:30. Keep an eye on Sentral and the Community Events Page in the Newsletter for further info.
Thank you to students Elodie, Emma, Lilia, Ashley, Rayma, Rupert and Meiyra for your responsible help on the plant and produce market on Friday, and especially Rayma and Elodie for the amazing scrunchies and pillows, and Emma for the delicious cakes. Thanks too to Brigid, Linda, Linda, Samarra, Lani and Anne for setting up and serving, plus all the amazing bakers out there for your delicious contributions. In total the Plant and Produce market raised $828.60 - what a great effort!!

All volunteers at the school need a valid Working With Children’s Check - click this link to apply if you don’t have one. It’s fairly straightforward and free for volunteers.
