A Message from Hannah & Keir

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present and emerging.

School Council Elections

Nominations for our 2023 school council elections closed at 4pm last Monday. Due to only a small number of nominations and following DET guidelines, we are extending nominations for one more week to try gathering more interest.

We understand that on the surface, joining the school council may not be the most appealing of volunteer opportunities within our school, but this group of community members is vital for school governance and improvement. In the past, our school council has been instrumental in bringing in funding to our school, organising fundraising events and ensuring the school’s progression and development aligns with our values.

If you have any questions about being on a school council before wanting to nominate yourself, please feel free to contact Hannah (hannah.reid@education.vic.gov.au) or Keir (keir.jasper@education.vic.gov.au). We can also put you in touch with some parents and carers who have been in the role before.

Plant & Produce Market

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in the plant and produce market last Friday. Our fabulous grade 6 families were on deck behind the tables, but baked goodies and harvested vegetables were brought in by families across the school - so thank you to all of you! The market made over $800 for the school, which is a valiant effort for our first official fundraiser of the year.

A special thank you is also needed for the two grade 6 students who brought handmade scrunchies to the stall. Elodie and Rayma raised an additional $40 for the school - and added some sparkle to our weekend, too!

Sydney Rd Festival

On Sunday, a large group of our students performed on the community stage at the Sydney Road Festival. Students performed dances that they had worked on as a part of their exploration of Circus skills in their Performing Arts lessons. Three large groups of junior students performed dances with scarves, and two groups of senior students performed with hoops. Their performances were a wonderful demonstration of the organic, creative process that they have also been exploring during performing arts. Students had come up with the moves themselves, and then had to share and ‘teach’ these moves to their peers. Working with Jenny (our Perfect Performing Arts teacher) they then put all of these moves together to  create a dance. The exuberance and joy that each student showed when they were performing was absolutely wonderful to watch. Some students had to conquer pre-show jitters, and other personal challenges in order to perform to the best of their ability.

Thank you so much to the families who came along to support the performance, to the teachers who gave up some of their Sunday to help supervise and encourage the performers, to Jenny; for guiding the students so beautifully through the creative process, but, most of all - Congratulations to the performers - thanks for sharing your joy with the community!

Class Reps Morning

This morning we met with a few of our Class Reps to see how the first few weeks of our ‘official’ WhatsApp groups are going. We are glad to hear that most of the groups have most of their class involved and it sounds like some fun social activities are being planned! We are excited to see how this structure will be used by families, our school council and its sub committees as well as classroom and specialist teachers as the year goes on. Thank you to everyone who has got involved so far!

Photo Week

Our stunning school photos have been booked for Week 10 of this term. A flyer with the date and package options went home last week. If you didn’t receive one, check at the bottom of your eldest child’s bag or contact the school office for another copy.

The school cannot take orders for photos; these must be completed online, directly with Kids in Living Colour. You can look at packages available and order directly on the website

Student Led Conferences

Our first round of Student-Led Conferences will be on the final day of Term 1. On this day students and parents will attend an online conference to discuss their learning goals and achievements so far. Students will not be required to attend school for this day - we will have a whole-day OSHC program for those families needing supervision of their children.

Parents and carers will be able to book in a timeslot via Sentral in a few weeks - we will send out a notification that bookings are open, with instructions on how to book your session.

School Song

Many of our students, teachers and community members may have noticed that when we sang the school song at assembly, we were starting to move from singing to yelling (particularly towards the end!) As a result, classes have been practicing singing the lyrics and using the song for a variety of teaching and learning opportunities. Huge thanks to unit NF who have  redesigned the song lyrics to be shared at assembly - just to make sure that everyone is singing the right words!

We wonder if there are any families who know (and can sing!) the full school song?
