Meet Our College Captains

2023

Latesha (Sam) Franks, Social Justice Captain - Cranbourne

What do you see as your role as a leader?

My role as a leader is to be a voice for those who can’t be heard. Not having people listen to you is frustrating, everyone deserves to be heard and validated. I believe firmly that as a person with privilege, I need to use that privilege to help others in any way possible. I see myself as a servant leader, with the aim of making our school become an even safer and inclusive place through working with other less fortunate individuals.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

I think the biggest positive about being a student at St. Peter’s College is the unity we strive to have. I have become really close with my cohort due to the amazing events we run such as year 12 retreat, harmony day, St. Peters day etc. We are great at highlighting everyones individual differences in a positive light and using those differences to benefit each other and our broader community.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

My partner Rae! They have supported me throughout such tough times as well as going through some incredibly difficult circumstances themself. They are strong, hard-working, kind, compassionate, funny, intellectual and a light. Rae lights up a room when they walk in and thats a quality that changes lives. They shine their light not just for me, but for everyone around them. Rae is the perfect example of a strong, servant leader who does the best they can for others, just as I want to be.

What are your goals as Social Justice Captain in 2023?

My main goal for 2023 is to introduce more practical/modern ways to get involved with charity or people. As society changes I believe that the way we help people should change with that. I want to engage as many audiences as possible by bringing sport into the mix and I would love to have a St. Peters Day Thrifting experience. I want to come up with innovative ways to help the community that branch further than the typical drives and rounding up coins.

 2023 College Theme

“Let your Light Shine” - Matthew 5:16

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

While launching this years theme, Mr. Hansen said something to me that has resonated since “its not about how bright your light is shining, it is the fact your light is shining.” I will live this statement through my leadership by reminding everyone that as an individual they are valued and appreciated, no matter how dim their light may be in that current moment. I will live this through small acts, contributing to a bigger and better environment and reminding everyone that any light is a good light.

Mia Legeant, Social Justice Captain - Clyde North

What do you see as your role as a leader?

My responsibility as a leader is to assist in bringing awareness and discussion of the critical issues that must be noticed. I consider myself to be a member of a community, and this term, with the aid of my social justice group, we are charged with accomplishing our community's hopes and goals.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

Being a student at St. Peter's has been a journey from year 7 onward.  I am grateful for all the opportunities I have had to learn and improve as a person and student, as well as for the support my teachers have provided. The teachers at this school are without a doubt one of its strengths because they have had an impact on every student in the past, present, and future.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

Mrs. Valencia is the one person I most appreciate since she has influenced me from my first class with her in food technology to my final session with her in VET Hospitality. In order to ensure that my class and I got the greatest results possible, Mrs. Valencia gave it her all. She went above and beyond to make us all happy and be the best we could be.

What are your goals as Captain in 2023?

As the Social Justice Captain, it is my responsibility to raise student awareness of the issue and inspire them to get engaged in a variety of activities because everything we do has an influence on those who need our help.
