Year 10 Dance

At the end of Term 1 the Year 10 Dance class from Cranbourne had the fantastic experience of performing their group dance for assessment on stage at the Geode Centre at the Clyde North Campus. The students have been learning, rehearsing and refining this jazz technique dance since the start of Term 1, and their performance on stage was an exemplary showcase of their commitment and ability.

This was the first time most of these students had seen our new theatre at St. Peter’s College, and they were all amazed at the facility with students stating ‘it’s so professional’, ‘I love this theatre, I can’t believe we have it at our school’ and ‘this is so cool’. It’s safe to say that the Year 10 Dance class had a fantastic morning using the stage and have already asked when they can go back to use it again.

"From the College Archives"

Each of the eight Houses at St. Peter’s College has a patron: a person who inspires the House with an individual identity. Each patron is celebrated during the year on a day that is specific to the House. Following the Liturgical Calendar of the Catholic Church, each patron is usually celebrated on the day that they died. This custom arose in the early Church as most saints were martyred and they were remembered on the anniversary of their martyrdom. For this reason, Oscar Romero is the first of the House patrons to be celebrated each year.

St. Oscar Romero was born in El Salvador on 15 August, 1917, which is also the feast of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was assassinated on 24 March, 1980, whilst saying Mass.

He was declared a martyr by Pope Francis in 2015 and was beatified, the first step to canonization and sainthood, a year later. He was canonized a saint in October 2018, thus making him the most recent of the saints who are designated House Patrons at St. Peter’s College.

The current House system was inaugurated in 2012 and Oscar Romero was selected as a House Patron. He, like Mary Glowrey, was not beatified or canonized when selected as House Patron. The House colour, red, reflects Romero’s martyrdom.

The House Leaders of Romero, Cranbourne Campus, have been Ms. Jessica Chakman, 2012 to 2015; Mr. Mark Sinclair 2016 to 2021; Ms. Sarah Hogan 2022 and Ms. Steph Lomas who is the current House Leader in 2023.

Due to the lower student population at the Clyde North campus, initial House Leaders cared for two Houses. Ms. Caroline Passagne cared for both MacKillop and Romero Houses, 2014-2015; Mr. Peter Woodhouse 2016-2017. In 2018, the Clyde North campus had grown to a size that warranted a House Leader for all the eight houses. Ms. Helena Gallant was House Leader in 2018. Mr. Andrew Mitchell 2019-2020; Ms. Karen Williams 2021-2022. The current acting leader of Romero House is Ms. Krystelle Martin.

Romero House, Cranbourne campus won the 2015 and 2016 Athletics Carnival. Romero House, Clyde North campus, also won the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Athletics Carnival.
