Wellbeing
In order to treat all of Australia’s children fairly, we need to make sure every family and community has what kids need to grow up safe and supported.
It is important to draw your attention to this edition of SchoolTV - CYBERBULLYING
With the advent of the internet, smart phones and tablets, there is now a whole new digital dimension added to traditional schoolyard bullying. There was once a time when bullying victims were given some respite outside of school hours, but sadly these days, online bullying can occur 24/7. In today’s world, teaching your child about online and cyber safety, is as important as learning to swim or cross the road!
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents are provided with useful guidelines and advice on how to minimise the risks. Children have the right to feel safe, regardless of whether it is in the schoolyard or online.

Year 8s Launch Live4Life Program
Live4Life is an organisation dedicated to improving the mental health of our youth, in schools in South Gippsland and Bass Coast. It provides students with an understanding of how to promote good mental health and what signs to look for in their peers, and ultimately, when to seek help from an adult. The Mental Health First Aid course will run for Year 8’s and Year 10’s at Mary MacKillop, with our Year 8’s participating in this course in Term 4 this year. On Wednesday 14th September we launched the program for all Year 8 students; we watched a film explaining what Live4Life does and the roles of the Year 9 Crew members, who organised the session for them. The students then participated in activities such as mindfulness colouring, origami, throwing the stress ball in the bucket, and covering the basketball courts with positive messages and drawings. We are very lucky to be involved in Live4Life and look forward to seeing how this progresses over the next few years at the college.

Walkathon 2022
It is with great pride that I can announce the College has raised $13,500 dollars for this year’s Walkathon charities. This is $2,500 dollars in excess of the target. The result of raising this extra money means that some charities will receive extra financial support.
Distribution of money raised is as follows:
$4,000 dollars to Project Kenya
$3,500 dollars to Disabled Surfers Association
$3,500 dollars to Shepherd’s Table
$1,000 dollars to Trinity Families
1,500 dollars to MacKillop Today
Thank you to all the families, students and staff who have contributed to raising the funds for this year’s Walkathon. Our College. Without doubt the Walkathon is a physical demonstration of our first Mission and Vision statement:
“To bring the Gospel of Jesus to life in the students entrusted to our care.”
Bettering the lives of others is a perfect example of bringing the Gospel to life, by serving the poor and those in need of love and compassion.
