Science Week 2022

Science Week at Karoo was a HUGE success thanks to all of the amazing students who participated and all of the fabulous families who collected and donated items for us to repurpose for the marble runs.

Before embarking on their marble run challenges, students explored the wonderful world of glass both in natural and created environments. They learnt about the properties of glass and were wowed by some very special uranium glass, which glowed bright green under UV light!

Students then set to work, utilising their engineering skills to design and create marble runs. The challenge was to work as a team to build the longest and slowest marble run in the school. Every student involved demonstrated our school values of respect, responsibility, excellence, honesty, fairness, tolerance and understanding throughout the challenge and should be enormously proud of themselves.

Special congratulations to our winning teams:

Longest Marble Run, Foundation to Year 3: Maggie, Isla, Ella and Emilia (1S)

Slowest Marble Run, Foundation to Year 3: Jobe, James, Evelyn and Jess (2V)

Longest Marble Run, Year 4 - 6: Xavier, Oscar, Alicia and Chloe (6A)

Slowest Marble Run, Year 4 – 6: Billie, Michael, Hudson and Nate (6W)

Thank you Elise and Zach from 4W and Noah, Ryley and Molly from 6W for helping our younger students throughout the week and our Science Captains, Chris and Kane, for their outstanding efforts helping to make Science Week at Karoo amazing.

I can’t wait to see what the National Science Week theme is next year!
