Curriculum Matters

Level 2

Level 2 students have had a wonderful time learning about procedure writing. We have made fairy bread, mini pizzas, enjoyed eating Oreos and even wrote about how to annoy our parents!

Level 3

Students in Level 3 packed their bags and headed off to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat for their first ever school camp!! There was so much excitement leading up to the big event which was full of many wonderful activities.

When they arrived, they separated into their activity groups and went exploring. Students panned for gold, went on a horse and coach ride, enjoyed a game of bowling, learnt how to make candles, went on a tour of the Secret Chamber by travelling in a train that led them to an underground mine, and explored some of the shops including their favourite - the Confectionary Factory!

Late in the afternoon they settled into their cabins which was also very exciting to see who they would be sharing with! After dinner the campers were treated to a spectacular AURA Light and Sound Show before attempting to get everyone to sleep before 10:30pm.

After an early morning start, they packed and headed off for breakfast before their final visit into the town. There was a spooky Red Hill Mine Tour and one last chance to spend any money before they had lunch and boarded the bus to return to school. Everyone had an amazing time and came home quite exhausted!

Level 4

Wow, we have been super busy learning and investigating these past couple of weeks!

For literacy we have been focusing on developing mental images when we read. We read an excerpt of James and the Giant Peach and drew the image we created in our minds. It was interesting to see all the similarities and differences.

This week, we started our Maths Improvement Groups. For this cycle we are focusing on developing our knowledge of fractions, decimals and percentages. It has been great to work and collaborate with different level 4 students.

Some students have begun thinking and creating a new invention as part of our Inquiry unit The Power of Inventions. There has been some great team work and creative thinking happening already. We are looking forward to showcasing our inventions at the end of the term – stay tuned for a parent afternoon!

This is the last week of our transition kinder visits. All students have thoroughly enjoyed visiting the kinder kids next door and we can’t wait to be buddies next year.
