We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school stands,
the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
Dear Families and Friends,
This Sunday is Fathers’ Day. Today at our assembly, we lit a candle and prayed together to celebrate and remember our fathers, grandfathers, and all those who are like fathers to us.
Dear God, who is like a father to us,
We thank you for the love we receive from those men in our lives who are fathers, grandfathers, uncles and those who are like fathers to us.
May we value and respect their generosity and kindness,
their love and care, and the time and energy they give us.
Bless all fathers with your abundant love and peace.
We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name.
Amen
We hope everyone has a great day on Sunday.
Yesterday all St Justin's staff members came together for a professional learning day in Religious Education. We were privileged to have two speakers from the Melbourne Archdiocese, Catholic Schools (M.A.C.S.), Mrs Prue Vanstan and Mr Stephen Nash, who began the day discussing the Catholic Social Teachings which underpin all our actions in Catholic Education. Our Catholic Church has a long history of social teaching, providing a challenge to us all in how to live responsibly, build a just society and to be in relationship with God. It is rooted in Scripture and has been written about through a long tradition of written documents. Our Religious Education program holds these principles at the core of what is taught. We look at these as a guide to how we are asked to live, set as examples in the way Jesus lived. We look for ways for our children to develop a deep connection with God and search for ways these teachings can come alive in everyday life.
Another part of our learning centered around various ways we can pray with our children. We reviewed some of the data around prayer and connection with faith from our families and students from previous surveys and explored many styles of prayer that we could adopt within our classrooms. We examined the importance of recontextualising sacred story in order to make meaning of it and make connection to everyday life for our children.
During our learning about prayer and working through the Religious Education curriculum, the staff each made a candle to either place on their class prayer table or for their own personal use.
Once again we ask that all families please consider if you have had any recent changes in your personal details - phone numbers, address, emergency contact, medications for students etc. Please take the time to update these details on Operoo so that we always have the most up to date information for your child. This is especially needed in cases of emergency. Thank you!
Whilst you are also welcome to email your child's teacher, letting the office know directly will ensure that your child's absenteeism is record in a timely and accurate manner. For more information please refer to the Attendance Policy on our website.
Please take great care when parking around the school, obeying all signs and restrictions. Many drivers have been observed parking illegally, especially when picking students up after school. Under no circumstances should any driver pull up in the middle of the road and allow their child to enter the car – it is better to drive around the block and wait for a safe park. Please do not park across driveways (neighbours have the right to access their driveways at all times) or on nature strips (it can create tracks, especially when the nature strip is wet). A reminder also that a speed limit of 40 km/h applies outside the school grounds along Whalley Drive - please obey. Your co-operation would not only be appreciated, but expected.
A reminder that we should not be driving into the school grounds to drop off or pick up students (Before and After School Care excepted). Grandparents might need to be notified. We appreciate your support in this matter.
Have a great weekend.
Take care and stay safe.
