Excursion to the Tyama exhibit

Immersion in nature at the Melbourne Museum

At the end of August we went into Carlton to visit the Melbourne Museum. We went to see the Tyama interactive digital exhibit. We were encouraged to interact with movement to the projected animals, who then responded in different ways. Tyama (CHAH-MUH) is the Keerray Woorroong language verb ‘to know’. This language is from the Gunditjmara language family, from the Western District of Victoria. Tyama is about knowing, not just with our minds, but with our whole body. By listening closely with all our senses, we can embody this learning and understand our place in the world.

We were also lucky enough to meet the most complete real dinosaur in Australia, Horridus the Triceratops. The exhibits at the museum were fun and moving and we are looking forward to getting out and exploring more of what Melbourne has to offer.
