From the Principal
We are bringing you a bumper Newsletter edition for the final week of Term 3, showcasing some of the excellent activities and events the students have been enjoying. A big thanks to all of our staff and to families for their organisation and participation in the events throughout the Term, I hope that you have been able to experience a number of them.
My favourite so far this year would have to have been the Friends of Northcote Comedy Night that ran last week, firstly because it was a fantastic evening for our families to get together but also because we were able to enjoy some great laughs from some amazing comedians who could relate to our recent covid experiences or even our days at high school. Thanks to the parents who worked together with Kerren Diamond to run the event, in particular to the ‘friends’ who used their contacts to find circus performers, comedians and comedic singers to entertain us. I hope that this will become a regular event once again and thanks to our families for supporting the evening and raising funds for our school projects.
This week is practice exam week for our Year 12 students, in preparation for the upcoming VCE exams. Our Year 12s have been through an incredibly challenging final three years of their secondary schooling and while this year has not been disrupted by the lockdowns and remote learning of the previous years, students have still had to endure periods of isolation while they were required to quarantine or perhaps while their classroom teacher had to isolate. I enjoyed celebrating with them at their recent formal and look forward to their graduation ceremony following the exam period.
Our Parent Student Teacher Conversations continue this week and are a great way to end the term, giving our students the opportunity to reflect on their learning so far this year. The holidays create a great opportunity for us to re-energise but will also give us a break from the classroom so that we can reflect and prepare for Term 4.
The Year 12 Art and Design classes are finalising their major pieces of work and I am really enjoying seeing them being put on display in the gallery spaces. I hope that you can come and see them at our upcoming art shows early next term, as their creativity and skill is inspiring.
Have a safe and enjoyable school holiday,
Chris Jones
