Student Leadership Congress
Charlie Mitchell and I recently attended a Student Leadership and representative Congress, held at Wurun Senior Campus in Fitzroy North. When we arrived we walked into the main room and joined about 150 students from schools all over Victoria, ranging from years 7-12. In the congress, there were 15 executives made up of students from Years 11 and 12. There was a pitch session, where about 50 students made a speech about their top issues in education. There was a wide range of issues that were addressed, all of which were important. We voted on our favourite ones and the top 10 most popular issues would qualify to get worked on in our action teams. After lunch we went into our action teams where we worked with some amazing people, and we all had some very productive conversations and discussions. Our issue in our group was there should more about aboriginal history and culture into the Victorian curriculum. We addressed some problems/issues or barriers involving this and then we came up with some solutions. At the end of the day the 15 executive members reported back to the group. These top 10 issues are going to be addressed at the next meeting of the executive members and the Education Minister. It was a lot of fun to be part of this event, meet new people and discuss important issues. Thank you very much Ms Sirec for the awesome opportunity.
