Book Week Celebrations
What a fantastic week we have had celebrating Book Week at Old Orchard. On Monday, our students enjoyed the Book Walk with various members of staff reading a favourite picture story book. Throughout the week, classes visited the library with our amazing librarian ensuring special books were on display and ready to inspire our students. Many staff had recorded themselves reading books which classes were able to access at various stages throughout the week. Finally, our fantastic Book Character Day and Parade. Students and staff surpassed themselves with many sensational costumes and it was wonderful to have so many community members in attendance for the P/1/6 and 2/3/4/5 Book Character Parades. Special thanks to the adults at home who used their creativity to create amazing costumes, our Literacy team for coordinating the Book Week activities, Janet (for just inspiring a love of books) and to all of our students for participating with enthusiasm.
Fathers’ Day Breakfast
We hope to see lots of our school dads or other special adults in our students’ lives at the Fathers’ Day breakfast next Friday. This will be our second such breakfast and I thank the PFA team for their enthusiasm and hard work in organising the event - it will be fantastic!
Traffic & Student Safety
The safety of our students and other pedestrians and road users is paramount. Parents / carers are reminded that the practice of double parking, parking in driveways, etc to drop off or pick up students is extremely unsafe. In particular, entering the driveway in Lantana St, to drop off or pick up students is dangerous and offenders will be reported to the City of Whitehorse By Laws Officer. A more substantial gate will soon be installed at the point, however we ask in the meantime that you drop/collect your child(ren) at a more suitable location.
Late Breaking News!!Footy fans will be aware that the AFLW season has now started. However, the big news tonight is that the AFLM have announced that their season has now been cancelled and finals will not be played, primarily because without Carlton there, it has become irrelevant! (I’m still suffering!!)
Kind regards
Duncan
