On the 18th of August, the year 7’s experienced a Health Day. We got to listen to guest speakers, participate in activities and watch a wonderful dance performance by Kulture Break. Headspace informed us about the signs of mental health problems and how to reach out for help if we needed it. Banyule Youth Services helped us explore the importance of healthy boundaries within friendships, romantic relationships, families, employers and teachers. For our physical health, we were split up into groups and had to complete fitness activities. Some to do with strength and stamina, whilst others contained boxing. The girls were split up into a group and worked on the topic ‘Women Supporting Women’. We recognised the negatives and positives that were happening in our year level and created a compliment wall filled with special messages to build up people's happiness. At the end of the day, an Australian mental health and well-being community service known as Kulture Break performed dances with meaningful messages behind them. One main message they told us was that ‘Never give up, because if you do you are getting nowhere’. Overall, the day was a great experience and every year 7 took something from it.

This semester the Year 9’s started the Prep / Year 1 Buddy Program. While working with these students over the week, for an hour each day during their reading time, we did a range of activities with the students and enjoyed spending time with them during their reading sessions. We helped with a variety of different things from guiding students with worksheet completion to playing fun and educational games. On the last day of our time with the program we were asked to teach the students on our own and take them through their morning routine. While it was a surprise it was a very enjoyable experience. Our highlight was getting to know the prep / grade 1 students individually and learning more about them. It was a great time and we would definitely do it again.
