Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Swimming lessons.

Thank you to our parents of students in Pre-Primary to Years 3/4 for your support with the recent swimming lessons. The weather has been kind to us on most days. Well done also to the staff who provided supervision at the pool and on the bus.

Fathers Day.

It has been interesting seeing the structures that are being made by many classes for Fathers Day and the support provided by Bunnings staff.

TT Rock-stars.

This initiative has been in full swing for classes across much of the school this week. The online competition looks at improving automatic tables recall. Our thanks to Mrs Walker who has coordinated the event with staff.

RATS Kits.

The school still has a large supply of RAT kits for families who would like to access them. They are available from the office between 8:00am-4:00pm and will also be available during assemblies and our Athletics carnival.

‘Your Move’ program.

The school has been successful in applying for a $2500 grant to look at our bicycle infrastructure in the school. The student team will meet to decide on the types of equipment that will complement the other riding to school initiatives currently in place.

Artist in Residence.

Staff and parents met with Jenny Dawson, a local Fremantle ceramics artist who will work with Ms Henderson and the school to put together a mural, in the area of our Friendship Bench. A picture of how this will look will be available for viewing in the office area shortly. It is anticipated that there will be an opening of the mural early in the new year.

P&C Competition.

The P&C have organised an exciting competition to encourage students to participate in a ‘Waste’ labels competition. Starting on Monday it involves designing a label, to place onto one of the, range of recycling bins that are currently used by the school. A $10.00 lunch voucher for the canteen will be made available to the various winners. This activity will close on Thursday the 15th of September. Thank you to Mrs Jennings for her support with this initiative.

Staff.

Our thanks to John the gardener for his work in getting the oval ready for the Athletics carnival and, also to Ms Gray in the Library who has put together a brilliant Book Week display! If you get the opportunity have a look inside the Library to see the display acknowledging the finalists of the WA Book awards. The school buys the recommended list each year to provide students with the latest fiction and non-fiction books that are released for primary aged students.

Before School Supervision.

The school has helped provide supervision before school between 8:30am-8:45am for working parents. This has been in place for several years.

Over time though, our numbers have increased partially by students who may not need to be in so early. The current supervision arrangement is being modified.

To enable teachers and education assistants to have time to prepare for the day, students who arrive to school early will now be asked to sit in the covered assembly area and be supervised by Ms Tingle and myself until 8:45am.

We are encouraging families where possible to drop off their children or send them closer to 8:45am, when the rooms are open.

For safety reasons students are asked not to play on the playground climbing equipment without teacher supervision.

Thank you for your understanding as we look at ways to support our students.

Coming Up.

Next week, all of our students will have the opportunity to attend a free Science incursion paid for by the P&C. Our thanks to the P&C for their support with this event which promises to be really interesting. Room 2 will also run their assembly on Thursday.

On Friday 2 September, we will have our annual Book Week parade. Students and staff are invited to dress up as their favourite Book character. It will be held at 9:00am in the covered assembly area. This event can take up to an hour to allow all classes to do a parade around the assembly area.

During week 8 there will be the Athletics carnival and also the Jumps and Throws for older students. Parents are welcome to come along to both events held on the oval. More information about each event will come home closer to the day.
