OUR WRITING PROCESS
Ā
Before writing our story, we read a wide range of Fantasy Narratives so we could learn how other authors write their stories.
Ā
We learned about the structure and features of narrative texts and spent many lessons exploring the use of interesting vocabulary such as adjectives, adverbs, sound words and dialogue. We learned how to describe a setting and characters, as well as beginning our story right at the action.
Ā
Once we had all our writerās tools under our belts, we were ready to work as a team. We used āthe story mountainā to plan our story, jotting ideas for each story part - introduction, the build up, the problem, resolution and ending.
Ā
We made sure that everyoneās voice was heard. We were open to ideas, respectful and thoughtful to everyone, ensuring that we all had shared ownership of our story. Including everybody's name in the text was the best part!
Ā
Every day we added more detail and we reread and revised our work at least one hundred times! This was a very important stage as the story improved with each change.
A final edit, to check our spelling and sentence structure was the last stage before we began publishing our story. Everyone was responsible for illustrating a page and we all had a very important role to play. All drawings were sketched in greylead, coloured in pencil and outlined in markers.Ā
Ā
We are so proud of our effort and collaboration throughout the writing process. It was not a quick activity and it took almost the whole term from beginning to end.Ā
Ā
We hope that everyone who reads our story enjoys it and is inspired to write and publish their own!
