Last Thursday and Friday our junior basketball teams competed in the SSWA Basketball Carnival at Willetton Stadium. We were in the fortunate position to enter two boys teams and two girls team. The latter competed on Thursday and concluded with both girls teams topping their pools and advancing through to the next stage of the competition, on 14 of September. The girls played with great spirit and demonstrated the ability to transition skills learnt in class to a competitive environment. The boys, who competed on Friday, played to a very high level. SNC1 came third overall and SNC2 fourth. The boys were committed to play as one team and work together to succeed. For many students it was their first time playing mixed years and as coach Colin said post game: "This is such an exciting group - the growth in this team should excite the entire St Norbert community for future years.''

The senior basketball teams that participated in the ACC Basketball Carnival on Tuesday were exceptional on and off the court.
The boys team, coached by specialist coach Colin Driscoll, showed a high level of skill throughout the day. The boys' grand final hopes (and advancing to the next stage of the competition) came down to the last game against Kolbe Catholic College - and we won by nine points.
Mr Driscoll summarised the boys' efforts by saying that we play "as a community'', inspired by the motto "On to the next one’'. The boys will now compete in the grand final play-off on 20 September. Congratulations must go to Year 10 student Joshua Welsh for making his first appearance in the senior boys basketball team.
The senior girls squad was full of youth. It was amazing to have six students aged Year 9 or below compete in such a carnival. Congratulations to the following students for marking their first appearance in the senior girls basketball team; from Year 9 – Ella Anton, Anais Adnams and Theory Snooks Holding and from Year 8 – Dariana Dweh, Millie Stancil and Reece Anticevic. The girls grew a lot as a team throughout the carnival, overcoming adversity to achieve three wins. Each time, the girls trailed by more than eight points at half time and managed to win each game. Some highlights of the day were Shanyka Parker's shooting and Eliza Terrell's leadership towards the younger students. The girls made it through to the semi-final game but unfortunately lost on golden point to Kolbe Catholic College. As their coach and basketball co-ordinator, I was very proud of these girls and the way they wanted to make each other better.
