Conserving water, saving trees

Keep Australia Beautiful

Keep Australia Beautiful (KAB) Week is held in August and is a time to raise awareness about the simple things we can all do in our daily lives to reduce our impact on the environment and encourage action to reduce litter. All Western Australians are encouraged to consider how they can participate in KAB Week aims every day and be role models for their families, friends and communities. On Monday 22nd August, the Climate Canons held events at lunchtime to promote the reduction of waste and protection of Australia’s unique native flora and fauna. Challenging the students to tasks and quiz questions, those involved had fun and learnt about managing their waste.

Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Clean Up

Australia's coastlines have never been more vulnerable. Our ocean is drowning from the tidal wave of plastic pollution. For marine life, this means the fight to survive each day is relentless. Sea Shepherd’s Australia-wide campaign is driving community change through education and beach clean-ups, empowering people to realise every piece counts. The Year 10-12 Climate Canons supported Karolina and Lisa from Sea Shepherd on a beach clean-up on Monday 22nd August at Port Beach, Fremantle. Students acted as treasure hunters, sourcing many different types of waste to be cleaned off the beach including micro-plastics, coffee cups and lids, fishing equipment including an octopus pot and lots of soft plastic. They had the opportunity to discuss how waste ends up in our oceans, ways to tackle their own personal use of plastics and did their bit to help clean the environment. The St Norbert College community are very proud of your efforts. #StemTheTide #ForTheOcean #SeaShepherd #SeaShepherdPerth
