Getting 'industry ready'

SoNiC Music Fest

THE St Norbert College Music Program is delighted to launch SoNiC Music Fest – showcasing our Certificate III Music students’ talents. To celebrate, St Norbert News interviewed Mr Beins and Mr Di Labio to get the inside word on what this new initiative is all about . . .

SNN: Everyone is very excited about SoNiC Music Fest. What is the inspiration behind it and what is it all about?

Mr Beins and Mr Di Labio: "It's the chance of our Certificate III Music (Performance) students to work on a project over the year and culminating in the opportunity to play at one of Perth’s best live music venues, the Universal Bar in Northbridge! The focus of the Certificate III Music course to get students to be “industry ready” and rather than just playing a few songs here and there throughout the year, they can play a longer set which will test their technique and stamina!''

How would you describe the bands who will be playing on the day?

"As some of the best that St Norbert College has ever produced! There is an eclectic mix of genres, so there’s sure to be something that you like in the three and half worth of music that they will be playing. They are all confident performers and are guaranteed to put on an entertaining show.''

What will this mean to the students in terms of a public performance?

"To have the opportunity to play in a venue as well renowned as Universal is incredible. I hope that it means the world to the students and will inspire them to have a career in the music industry or have an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives!''

What can guests expect on the day?

"Doors will open from 1:30pm with performances from our Year 11 bands starting from about 1:45pm. Our headline act Year 12 bands will start from about 3:15pm. Families, staff and friends are welcome to make a day of it and stay for the duration of the show, or ‘drop in’ to see their favourite bands. Food and drinks will be available for purchase over the bar!''
