A REMINDER that next Thursday, 1 September, St Norbert College will be holding the Year 7 and New Students Information Evening for all students commencing in 2023. The Information Evening provides families with important information about the transition program to assist current Year 6 students and students in other year groups commencing at St Norbert College next year. Both students and at least one parent/carer are required to attend the evening which commences at 6.00pm in the Fr Peter O’Reilly Centre. Please arrive by 5:45pm to allow sufficient time to sign in and collect materials. After an introduction to the whole group, families will then be split into smaller groups for some more informal presentations and discussion about what students can expect when they commence next year and how they can best prepare for this transition.
All Year 12 students were provided with a Booklet on Wednesday, 17 August regrading key information for the coming weeks and in particular graduation events on Friday, 21 October. Parents/carers are asked to note the important dates and RSVP to events as soon as possible. Students are also able to apply for a College Reference before 5 September.
It is unfortunate that a number of students are arriving at school late with no valid reason. If is often just due to a lack of organisation, perhaps going to bed late and therefore not being able to wake up on time. We understand that there are genuine reasons why a student may be late to school (eg appointments, car issues, traffic), so we ask parents/carers to please contact the College as soon as possible to inform us and to ease our concerns when a student has not arrived.
Term 3 concludes as follows:
Term 4 commences as follows:

Students will attend Homeroom be marked as ‘present’ then proceed to the Business Centre. Students are required to bring a (charged) laptop and their headphones and the ICT staff will be in attendance to assist with technical issues. The test schedule will include:
OLNA – Writing: Monday, 29 August, 9:00am
OLNA – Reading: Tuesday, 30 August, 9:00am (OLNA Writing Catch-up: 10:00am)
OLNA – Numeracy: Monday, 5 September, 9:00am
Changes to OLNA for 2022-23: The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) has reviewed the OLNA testing schedule, taking into account the need to reduce the testing impost on schools in March and the feedback from schools for a more flexible schedule. In Term Four (Weeks 3 & 4), an additional testing window will be available for Year 9 students who did not prequalify through NAPLAN 2022. This will replace the March OLNA testing for Year 10 students only. Additional opportunities to sit OLNA throughout 2023 will be made available to students.

For many students, their 16th birthday heralds the start of their process of gaining their drivers’ licence. This means ‘L’ plates and the need to get the required driving hours prior to sitting their driving test. At school there would be Year 12 students, Year 11 students and now even Year 10 students who are in the ‘learner’ stage of driving. Given the lack of experience of these drivers, the College would ask that ‘L’ drivers avoid driving to and from school – especially in the period immediately before and after school. The College also discourages students commencing formal driving lessons from school immediately at the end of the school day. The large number of students moving around the outskirts of the College makes driving at these times especially tricky and the inexperienced drivers may not have the skills necessary to handle unexpected situations.
The process for choosing the 2023 student leaders is well underway with a total of 39 students having submitted an application for a student leadership position. The process officially commenced with an information session that was held on the afternoon of 2 August and was attended by Year 11 applicants, current Year 12 leaders and various staff who will mentor the Year 12 students next year over their leadership journey. Interviews will be conducted on the 5th and 6th of September with successful applicants being notified in Week 3.9. A big thank you to Ms Isard for her coordination of the process and for all of the staff and current Year 12 leaders who have been involved in supporting and encouraging the applicants.
Term Three is shaping up as an exciting time for Year 11. Not only has the Student Leadership applications progressed, but the Year 12 Ball Committee has already started meeting and has commenced their planning process. Two key events remain on the Term Three calendar for Year 11 students. These are:
