From the Principal

Mr Simon Harvey

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and Friends of St Norbert College,

“’Try your best to enter by the narrow door, because I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed’” (Luke 13: 24).

In the Gospel last Sunday, Jesus shared this message above with followers as He made His way to Jerusalem. I read a reflection about this passage and it resonated with me that to navigate the ‘narrow door’ in life or in life’s moments is often more difficult and takes more effort. We are constantly challenged as to whether we take either the “narrow door” or the easier option, to go around;

  • Are there times in our lives when we avoid the “narrow door – the difficult options?
  • Do we make the most of our opportunities to enhance our lives, even if it requires more effort?
  • Do we make the most of our opportunities to enhance our relationship with God by engaging in “common ideals, worship and service”?

St Norbert College is much admired, both from within and from afar, for many of the opportunities we offer the young people in our care. A beacon of which is our Campus Ministry and Christian Service program, especially Norbie Care under the guidance of Ms Margaret Kyd. In a determined effort to provide an opportunity for our staff to experience the joy of giving service like our students are experienced to, we recently held our Staff Service Day along with our colleagues at St Joseph’s Primary School. In total, over 160 staff from both schools spent the day, giving service to 18 community agencies.

Please see the link below to read a brief summary of each of the agencies that our College supports. We have developed wonderful relationships over many years with the agencies and they would welcome further interaction and support from our wider community members who are willing and able.

This extract was taken from one of the letters of acknowledgement we received from the agencies following our Staff Service Day;

“We were all very humbled by the generosity, kindness and willingness to go above and beyond with the work that was completed on the day…it was fantastic to see that your team was so engaged and seeking to understand what we do and to learn about the barriers the people we support face in their homelessness journey.”

As St Francis of Assisi said, “It is in giving that we truly receive” and I’m sure that our staff gained greatly from this opportunity. To be able to experience what our students experience enhances the holistic development of our staff to be better equipped for our students and an acknowledgement of the relevance of our College motto for all in our community: to be…prepared for all good works.

“Do not forget: thin sowing means thin reaping; the more you sow, the more you reap” (2 Corinthians 9: 6)

God bless.

God bless.
