From the Principal

Dear Killara Families,

As we approach the final weeks of Term 3, I want to congratulate all students on their achievements this term.

Year 12

I congratulate all Year 12 students at Killara High School for their dedication towards their learning, and for the contribution that they have made to our school. Year 12 students are enjoying their final few lessons with our teachers, as they work collaboratively towards consolidating their learning in preparation for their final examinations. We are preparing to farewell our Year 12 students, and plans are in place to celebrate their completion of secondary education. Year 12 students will enjoy their graduation dinner at Ekuba, a farewell assembly at school, and a picnic to a secret location.

Alongside the graduating class of 2022, we also farewell and thank our Year 12 parents and families who have dedicated a great deal to our wonderful school. For many families, especially those who have had multiple children graduate from Killara High School, 2022 marks the end of a significant chapter, however, I assure all families, that they will always be a part of the Killara High School community, and there will be plenty of opportunities to engage in our school. I thank our P&C President Megan Guenther, and our P&C Treasurer Alan Gardiner for their unwavering dedication to our school over many years. Their contributions have helped shape the culture of collaboration, care and kindness within our school. Megan and Alan, your contributions have enriched our school, and I thank you for your leading roles within our P&C.

Over the coming weeks, it is important to strongly voice the importance of balance for our Year 12 students. Academic preparation for the HSC examinations should be approached in a healthy and balanced manner. The NSW Department of Education has created the Stay Healthy HSC hub, and there are useful resources available that cover parent tips to support students going through the HSC, and tips from former Year 12 students. Combined High Schools Championships – Athletics

Congratulations to our students who qualified for the Combined High Schools Championships. The determination and personal best efforts showcased by our students was inspirational, and we are proud of their achievements.

Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement – Community Languages Schools

Congratulations to Kamyar of Year 12 who received a Minister’s Award as part of the 2022 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Student Achievement – Community Languages Schools. This is a remarkable achievement and a prestigious award and reflects Kamyar’s commitment to the study of Persian.

School Administration and Support Staff

Our School Administration and Support Staff are vital to our operations and ensure that our delivery of educational programs is of the highest quality. This week was SASS appreciation week. A morning tea was held earlier this week to thank our SASS team. On behalf of our entire school community, I thank our amazing SASS team for their dedication, care and determination to ensure Killara High School delivers the best educational experiences for our students.

Kind regards,
