Mud Kitchen Re-opening

We are so happy to announce that, after some renovations, the Mud Kitchen in the Junior School is finally open!

If you were to think-back to your childhood, many wonderful memories would involve making mud pies, rolling, squishing and making things with this gooey, cold and brown substance.

Mud kitchens provide the opportunity and space for our children to do just that!

A mud kitchen allows children to engage in pretend and messy play by cooking with mud, sand and water. It offers incredibly rich learning experiences as they develop fine motor skills, roleplay, exploration and social skills.

Children can extend their learning beyond the classroom and apply it outside by using measuring cups to measure amounts and practically apply their understanding of measurement, talk through procedures as they brainstorm together and work on baking muddy treats. Team work and collaboration are actively involved as they commit to working together, problem solving and sharing the space and equipment.

The opportunity to engage in this rich sensory experience allows them to use their imagination, strengthen their finger and hand strength as they mix and mould all sorts of creations. If they haven’t had a go yet, encourage your children to explore the space and share their experiences with families at home.

This space is truly amazing and we are so blessed to have a dedicated area to mud play at Emmaus!
