Commendations

The end of Term 1 saw both Middle and Senior Sub-Schools celebrate the achievements of students with regard to 100% Attendance and College Value Commendations. Once again, the number of students being recognised for their achievements is on the increase.

Congratulations to all the students who received a certificate (and a canteen voucher).

At the beginning of Term 2, our Year 11 and Year 12 VCE students will again work with Elevate Education providing seminars surrounding VCE studies and performance. Year 11 students will be participating in a Student Elevation session concerning growth mindset and a student’s attitude towards study. Year 12 students will be looking at a session concerning VCAA exams known as acing your exams. These valuable sessions with our students started in Term 1 setting them up for future success in their studies.

Last term, Year 9 Science students visited ‘Ecolinc:  Science and  Innovations Centre’ located at Bacchus March.

The aim of the day was to determine ‘How healthy the habitat is for platypus populations?’

We travelled by bus to Werribee Gorge and then following a steep walk down to the banks of the Werribee River, students were involved in a habitat assessment; and then biological and chemical testing to determine whether the fresh water ecosystem can support the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus).  Although there was much disappointment that these unusual little creatures remained hidden from view, we were relieved to find that following our fieldwork, we were able to assess that the platypus was living in a healthy environment. The overall assessment was rated as being good with respect to the habitat and biological assessment, whereas the chemical assessment of the water was rated as excellent.

Whats coming up

On the afternoon of Tuesday 24th April, Year 9 students will be attending the ‘2018 South East Careers Expo’ (and Try a Trade), at the Cranbourne Racecourse.

Students will have the opportunity to meet local employers, explore new career options, talk to local training providers and make use of interactive displays.

Any student, in any year level, who identifies as Koorie and/or Torres Strait Islander has been encouraged to attend.

This is a valuable opportunity for our students to begin the process of thinking about the future.

If you haven’t already done so, ensure that you log on to compass, consent and pay.

For all enquiries, please contact the College on 5996 0144.

Winter

Winter is fast approaching and so is the cold weather. Students should now be wearing the College winter uniform.

Please remember to dress according to the winter uniform (girls this means putting away the summer dress and wearing the winter skirt, shorts or trousers). A reminder that beanies, hoodies and non LSC coats are not permitted at any time.

All purchases of new uniform should be through one of the two school suppliers. ‘Uniforms by Design’ onsite or ‘Beleza’ in High Street Cranbourne. Price lists are available from the General Office.

Middle and Senior School staff look forward to a positive and productive Term 2. We continue to support and encourage all students to have high expectations of themselves and remind them to uphold the College values of Commitment, Integrity and Respect.
