Year 5 Showcase
Come check out what we've been up to in Year Five this term!
It's certainly been a very different looking term in Year Five, however our resilient students have blown us away with their 'can do' attitude and willingness to have a go at whatever we throw their way.
It's been a busy term in Year Five, here's what we've been learning about.
Reading
Students have been interpreting, comprehending and responding creatively to a range of written and visual texts. They have also been engaging in Literature Circle discussions in small groups via Webex.
Writing
We have just completed a poetry unit where the Year Five's learnt about how to write odes and anthems. Now we are now learning about how to write an explanation.
Maths
The Year Five students have strengthened their multiplication strategies, both mental and written. Students enjoy testing their skills during weekly problem solving tasks.
Geography
We have been travelling around the world and learning about the diversities in various cultures. So far we've learned what it's like to live on $1 a day in Guatemala, and this week we're headed for Finland!
Curiosity Project
This term students are engaging remotely in a Curiosity Project where they focus their attention and self-directed learning on researching a challenge (environmental, social, political or natural) faced by communities in Europe, Asia or North America.
Well-being
Each Friday students take time out to reflect on what they are grateful for, what they are good at or how they are travelling with remote learning this term.
STEM
Friday STEM sessions with Claude (Monash University undergraduate) have been terrific for those students opting in. Students have been learning about building electrical circuits with the online program TinkerCAD.
