Hollows
Term 2
Hollows
Term 2
We have had a number of exciting events this term including, Year 7 and 8 Camp as well as our annual Hollows House Fundraiser!
A big congratulations to Eesha Khushalani and the Hollows Student Leadership Team for their work in raising $2,320 which will go to The Fred Hollows Foundation to help end avoidable blindness in developing countries.
Thank you to all Hollows Staff for their support with attending camps and also assisting our student leaders with the fundraiser – these events would not be as successful as they are without their help.
We have welcomed Ms. Nancy Deng as our new Hollows House Administration Assistant – Nancy has settled in well and we would be lost without her support in Hollows.
Sadly, we are farewelling Ms. Kim Winton who is leaving Blackburn High School and Hollows House at the end of this term. Thank you to Kim for all her work as Technology Learning Area Leader.
This term has been my final term as Hollows House Leader as I will going on family leave. It has been a pleasure working with Hollows Students, Staff and the wider Hollows Community over the last two years.
A huge welcome to Ms. Brittany Milner from Dunlop House who will be stepping into the role of Hollows House Leader.
On behalf of our Hollows Staff, I would like to wish you all a safe, relaxing and warm Term 2 break.
Laura Brock – Hollows House Leader
Recently on May 23rd, Hollows had their House fundraiser where the whole school raised money for the Fred Hollows Foundation to support avoidable blindness in developing countries. Lots of donations were made throughout the morning which was then followed by a delicious sausage sizzle at lunch time that continued to raise money for the foundation. Not only was there the opportunity to purchase some food and drinks, there were a couple of other fun activities taking place on the COLA. This included henna painting organised by Hollows student leadership member Nuzaira Arisha, and a coin toss created by another member of the team, Sam Clochiatti. An additional activity involved a bean bag toss using vision-impaired goggles, with chances to win some chocolates too!
This day was thoroughly planned through the help of our House Leader, Ms Brock, and the entire Hollows Student Leadership Team which helped out on the day and in weeks leading up to the event. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the rest of the staff members who assisted in organising the fundraiser, and the wider student body for donating and participating. It was a beautiful day and highly successful in raising funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation!
Eesha Khushalani – Hollows House Captain
I went on a remarkable journey to camp Toolangi. From playing table tennis to eating delicious food and even kayaking. The best part in my eyes was going on high ropes, I was a bit scared but faced my fears and climbed as far as I could. I enjoyed the choice of cabins and how the staff where fun. Overall, everyone had a fun and enjoyable time at camp Toolangi.

This year 8 camp was a great experience for me. I had loads of fun the whole time, all the activities where so fun and the food was great. I was in group three, and I thought it was a great mix of people to be in a group with. On the first day I participated in the amazing race, it was so much fun, and I enjoyed it a lot. On the second day my group had the gorge trek and flying fox in the morning, I had so much fun going on the flying fox, I went up side down and went off backward, it was awesome. The gorge trek was fun as well. After that we did adventure tunnelling, which was spread across a bunch of shipping containers, and to get into the next container you had to climb through a concrete tunnel, it was a great team building experience. And the last activity for the day was stand up paddle boarding. The lake was super cold, but it was still fun, I ended up pushing lots of people in. When the lesson ended, I went and had a nice warm shower after. On the last day the two activities my group did where mountain biking and kayaking. I really enjoyed mountain biking, it was so fun, we got to ride around on some practise trails which were fun and easy. On the main trail we rode on as we were going, we saw so many kangaroos, there was over one hundred, it was crazy, I have never seen that many kangaroos at one time. After mountain biking, we did kayaking and jetty jump, I had lots of fun while we were kayaking. All in all, I had a great time and would love to do it again.
