Generations in Jazz Mt Gambier

The music students and staff have waited patiently over the past four years to participate in the  Mt Gambier Generations in Jazz Festival.

What a fantastic weekend for the 60+ students, staff, and parents who travelled to Mt Gambier for Generations in Jazz last weekend. Joining 3500 students from around the country, the Senior Jazz Orchestra, Intermediate Big Band, Thursday Big Band, and Vocal Ensemble performed in competitions on the Saturday, participated in workshops on Sunday, and saw concerts featuring local and international acts across the whole weekend.

This was the first time for all involved and set us up fantastically for the years to come.

Well done to all students and especially to Samara A and Jeremy B who were both named in the Division 4 Superband, chosen from 47 bands.

Term 2 Music Program

Term 2 is when things begin to really happen in the Music Program at BHS. After a term of preparation, we hit the ground running on day 1 with workshops and rehearsals for the Jazz ensembles as the students continued their preparation for the tour to South Australia for Generations in Jazz. By the Wednesday, the Symphonic Band was performing at the ANZAC service and the term was well underway. Our newest ensembles began rehearsing and by the end of May the Midyear Concerts had arrived. The Midyear Milestones and VCE Soirées gave us a chance to see how much our young musicians have progressed and a chance for them to share their great work.

With performances at festivals and competitions, our annual working with special guests and the Spring Concert to come in Term 3, there will no doubt be a lot more exciting experiences.

ANZAC service

Music plays such an important role in the rituals of the ANZAC day service. We are proud at BHS to be able to contribute such an important part of the year. The Symphonic Band, Amy Parcell and Lavi Tuiono (Anthems) and Jacob Elrom (Last Post) did a wonderful job.

Mid Year Concerts

Two concerts in one afternoon was always going to be huge, but when there is so much to show off in the Music Program, it was a great event! 21 ensembles from across the program as well as many of our Piano soloists performed in what was 3 hours of high-quality entertainment. It is always exciting to see students who are performing for the very first time alongside those who have become experienced high-level performers. Both concerts had full audiences, providing a great opportunity to perform to our community and share the joy of live music.
