Principal's Message

St Luke's... "nurturing faith filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world."

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this newsletter finds you well as we pass the halfway point in our term. Last week, we celebrated a significant milestone in our school—the launch of our house system. When I arrived at St. Luke's in 2017, I transitioned from the oldest Catholic School in Australia to the newest. It has been invigorating to be a part of the initial steps in developing our house system, which is already established in most schools when students arrive. Our students have actively participated in naming the houses, creating crests, and shaping the stories behind each house. This is something that future generations at St. Luke's will inherit, thanks to the major contributions of the children here.

The House Launch Day was a wonderful celebration of our community, and I was approached by several students at the end of the day who told me it was "the best day ever." These types of experiences are essential in providing positive and memorable moments for our students. Such experiences can profoundly impact their personal and academic growth. Education extends far beyond textbooks and classrooms; it encompasses a broader spectrum. By offering opportunities for our students to engage in memorable events, we shape their characters, impart valuable life lessons, and foster their overall development.

The House Leader launch marked a significant milestone in our school's journey towards developing leadership skills, teamwork, and a sense of belonging among our students. The event was filled with enthusiasm as students proudly wore their house colours and came together to celebrate the spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie. The atmosphere was electric, and it was truly heartwarming to witness the passion and dedication displayed by our young leaders.

Memorable experiences create a vibrant tapestry of moments that weave together the fabric of a student's journey through school. They leave lasting impressions, ignite passions, and cultivate a strong sense of identity. Whether through participating in cultural festivals, going on excursions, or engaging in community service, each experience plays a vital role in broadening their horizons, fostering empathy, and nurturing a love for learning and an appreciation for others.

Furthermore, these experiences serve as common ground that unites our students, forging lifelong friendships and fostering a strong sense of belonging. The bonds formed during shared experiences often transcend the school years, creating a network of support and connection that can last a lifetime. By creating these memories, we ensure that our students leave our school not only with academic achievements but also with a treasure trove of meaningful relationships and cherished moments.

As parents, you play an essential role in nurturing these experiences. Your support and involvement in school events help create a vibrant, inclusive community that sets the stage for such moments to unfold. I found it interesting that a teacher who recently joined us from another school excitedly shared that only two students were absent from his class that day, whereas in his previous school, half the class would have been absent. Your support as a community for these events is highly valued as an important connection in our community. Your active engagement as parents sends a powerful message that education extends beyond the confines of the classroom.

As we look ahead to the next academic year, we are excited about the possibilities that lie before us. Together, let us continue to foster an environment where our students can thrive, grow, and create memories that will stay with them long after they leave our halls.

I look forward to having parents participate in opportunities provided by our school community and enhancing the connection between the school,  parents and students.

Kind Regards,

Kelly Bauer
