Week 6 Term 2

Dear Parents & Carers,

The end of Term 2 is fast approaching which means that teachers are busily writing school reports. We have only 3 weeks to go till the mid year break and plenty of learning to do before we get there.

The reports will be made available electronically on Monday 19th June and we will be holding Parent Teacher Conversations under the usual format on Wednesday 21st June. To enable this to happen we will be asking that parents who are able to, pick up their children at 1.00pm on this day. As always, we will also cater for students till 3.15.

For parents who would like to take this opportunity to have a follow-up conversation about your child's learning, we will be sending out booking links by the end of next week.

We need to say a huge thank-you to Mrs. Norah Jacombs and all the staff who have spent the last two weeks conducting Program Support Group Meetings with a number of our families. These meetings are an integral part of the education process for students who are identified as having additional needs where parents, teachers and support staff work together to set goals for the students' learning going forward. We know that the students learn best when we are able to form a partnership with families and that the input of parents, as the first teachers of their own children, is vital.

Max and Clare, two of our FIRE Carriers Leaders presented some information at the assembly on Monday about Reconciliation Week which runs from 27th May to 3rd June. This year's theme is "Be a Voice for Generations". They spoke about how the theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives - where we live, work and socialise. As a FIRE Carrier school we choose to work for generations past, and the benefit of generations future, to act for a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all. Mrs. Cumming and the FIRE Carrier Team wish to thank all the families who contributed a decorated heart for our ‘Sea of Hearts’ Display. We will have it up shortly and know it will help to continue the important conversation.

Congratulations to Noah Webb who represented us at the Nillumbik Division Cross Country Championships at Bundoora Park on Wednesday. He qualified to be at this event through his great performance at the district carnival. The division competitions represent the best runners from around 40 schools in the local area. We were also able to play our weekly Eltham District Inter School Sports of football, netball, korfball and bat tennis against the students from St. Thomas Nth Greensborough.

In parish news, we were officially informed by the Archbishop of Melbourne, Peter Comensoli that a new name had been selected for the combining parishes of Our Lady Help of Christians, Eltham and St. Francis Xavier, Montmorency. The Parish will now be known as, Parish of the Risen Christ - Montmorency and Eltham. Our School, Church and Eltham Church Community will continue to be known as Our Lady Help of Christians.

In other upcoming events we also have the King’s Birthday public holiday Monday June 12, some AFL clinics for the whole school on Tuesday June 13, an open classroom SWELL session June 19 and the Year 3-6 sprint trials on the last day of term Friday June 23.
