Assembly

Last Friday students in 5/6 A with Dave presented.

Since the start of term, we have been learning about persuasive speeches in our writing lessons.

We watched a video of Barack Obama deliver an inspiring speech and have used this as a mentor text for the structure of our speeches.

After watching the speech, we brainstormed all of the things that we noticed he did that we thought were effective:

  • He told stories to get his audience interested and change their emotions.
  • He didn’t start his speech with his argument
  • He used a lot of repetition
  • He used facts to back up his ideas
  • He used a positive tone and told us that we can make a difference
  • He finished his speech with a call to action.

We have been writing our own persuasive speeches about something that we feel passionate about.

Here is some of our writing. Keep an eye out for some of the techniques we learned from Barack Obama.
