Sweeney Todd - The Reviews are in!!

  • “Sweeney Todd’s a MUST see!”
  • “We will be laughing for a long time on the memories of the lines and the antics.”
  • “Fun performance to watch for both my kid and I, separated by 40 years, so that's got to be cool, and slick production values. Bravo!”

Many of you will have heard of the legendary villain, Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet street.  Well this year, our talented students took on the challenge of bringing these characters to life in a previously unimagined way.  Our dedicated and hard-working cast embodied the same evil characters set against the backdrop of San Francisco in the months leading up to the famous 1906 earthquake that wiped out Chinatown, Nob Hill and the entire Barbary Coast.

Audiences booed the villains, cheered for the heroes, took pity on the orphans and belly-laughed as these fabulous young actors tackled the late 1800s Mid-Atlantic accent, high-energy melodrama, farcical plot lines and traditional hair, makeup & costumes to entertain packed houses each night.

Special mention to Chloe G (yr 7),  Zahra B (yr 11), Allanie S & Mary Z (yr 12) for stepping in to cover new roles with less than 48 hours notice, as COVID once again stole some of our cast members and threatened to shut us down. These students, alongside the rest of the cast, pulled together, supported each other and proved their embodiment of the old adage “The show must go on” as they performed so professionally, flexibly and with such grace, that audiences wouldn’t have had a clue that anything was amiss.  Thankfully, the entire cast was back to full health and reunited just in time for the closing night performance.

On behalf of Leah Gargano (Director), Amy Longden (Producer), Grace DeBlasio (Head of tech crew) and Berni Sweeney (Stage Manager), we would like to congratulate our cast & crew and thank everyone who came along to support us.
