High Ability Report

Semester One

Our high ability students have been involved in many exciting events in Semester 1. Students have participated in the Victorian High Ability Program sessions facilitated by Mrs Pearson.  They have also represented the college at events such as the Rostrum Public Speaking competition. Minnie C, Veda H and Anesha N presented speeches at this event on topics including the importance of animal conservation, the truth behind the beauty industry and the importance of ‘turbulent’ harmony.

Sanjayani S, Yashvir J and Anesha N participated in the Exceptional Exchange event which was organised by the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children (VAGTC) at the new Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) complex in South Yarra.  Our students spoke about their experiences as high ability students and the opportunities and challenges that come with being this kind of student.

The school also recognised Gifted Awareness Week which took place in May through displays of student work in the teachers’ staffroom and a display in the library featuring resources designed to support staff as they work with our high ability students. A group of Year 9 GAPP students have entered the Australian Space Design competition and they are working together to design a space settlement of the future!  The year 9 GAPP class visited Balwyn High School in Term 2 to work with the Year 9 SEAL students at Balwyn to complete a science extension program.  In Term 3 we will be welcoming the Year 8 SEAL students from Balwyn to Box Hill as they join our year 8 GAPP students for a Humanities and Literature program.
