Celebrating Jelly Beans

Are red jelly beans the secret weapon for EMPOWERMENT?

Did you know that the colour red is often associated with ‘power’ & ‘strength’? It is said to be energising and motivates us to take action. So the colour red perfectly embodies EMPOWERMENT, one of our school values, and a quality that we want to encourage in ourselves.

An event for National Jelly Bean Day, usually celebrated on Saturday April 22, was held at MGSC on Wednesday 10 May. The day celebrates the jelly bean’s long history from way back in the mid 1800s when a sweet maker from Boston encouraged people to send them as gifts to soldiers fighting in a war. In Australia, it wasn't until 1941 that Glucojel jelly beans started appearing in pharmacies and adding colour to our lives! Glucojel jelly beans are truly Australian (in fact, made in Victoria!). Not only that, we can fuel our mind and body with the power boost of glucose from every bean!

With a huge thanks to GLUCOJEL, Year 7 students celebrated the mighty red jelly bean and its empowering qualities! Students engaged in a Kahoot, answering questions about the Glucojel and their delicious beans (Congrats Cassie)! They used their best mathematical skills to estimate the number of jelly beans in the container (Congrats Georgia) and let their inner champion soar as they aimed for the Sweet Spot and claimed the title of Jelly Bean Toss Queen! Congrats Bella!

Through the generosity of Glucojel, all Year 7 students received a packet of jelly beans, and as they savoured the taste, were encouraged to take a moment to reflect on their own strengths and how these strengths can be used to make a positive impact both at school and in the world around us.
