Year 9 Report

So far, this semester for Year 9s has been very memorable. We have had some exciting opportunities, including an excursion to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum, completing the Morrisby Career profiling tests and awaiting our first exams. The entire cohort have been enjoying their elective studies, which have provided us with the ability to receive enriched topics outside of the core curriculum. This semester has been exciting for the school leadership team too, as we have had the opportunity to begin to attend curriculum meetings. By students being able to participate in these meetings, it allows for a more student-chosen curriculum, higher enthusiasm when it comes to topics studied, and having our voices heard. We are very excited for what is next to come in Year 9, as we navigate our learning journeys day by day.

Year 10: Emerging Literature

In Year 10 English we have begun our newest unit, Emerging Literature, which asks us to read a book, analyse it and turn our thoughts into a small booklet! This unit’s goal is to encourage reading and look at books and their language to discover what the author is trying to say.

Here are some students' favourite books and their opinions on them.

“My favourite book is Harry Potter. The protagonist Harry is brave and fearless. He always thinks about the people around him and does not want them to be in danger. The other protagonists in the story also want to defeat the dark wizards and put in effort and sacrifice. I was moved by their sincerity and bravery”

“I’m reading The Biology of Belief. It’s about how cells receive information and how your mind and body interact. The author draws insight from quantum physics, cell biology, theory etc. The book offers scientific perspectives on how thoughts can affect our lives. It’s a very informative book and as someone who is interested in human thought process and science I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to other kids and adults who are interested in psychology and biology, and hope you’d enjoy it too.”

“I’m reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. This book is set in a world that is seemingly perfect. Jonas the main character lives within the community where there is no pain. During the ceremony of 12, Jonas is selected to be the receiver of the memory. He then learns there is so much more outside his community prompting him to set out on a journey to leave the community.”
