Performing Arts News
The Year 3 & 4 students recently enjoyed an excursion to ‘The Channel’ and the Australian Music Vault at the Melbourne Arts Centre. In the ACID Music Studio, they participated in a digital music composition workshop where they explored technology and techniques to create the music they hear everyday. Using pre-set audio loops, they explored different genres, instrumentation and voice recordings as they learnt about musical structure while having great fun at the same time!
The students then toured the ‘Australian Music Vault’, where they not only learnt about the history of Australian music through viewing iconic objects from the Australian Performing Arts Collection and listening to a fabulous selection of songs recorded by Australian artists, but also learnt fun techniques for finding inspiration from the exhibition, and everyday items, to create cool rap lyrics and unique band names.
Back at school, the students loved listening to one another’s compositions. They applauded, danced and encouraged their fellow composers while marvelling at the wide range of music styles created. Comments included, “That sounds like the intro to a futuristic video game” and “I love your cool jazz vibe – you could sell this!”.
Students meet Spectacular Director of Dance
Last week, our State Schools Spectacular dance team were very excited to meet, and receive glowing feedback from Deon Nuku. Deon is the VSSS23 Director of Dance – and an internationally renowned choreograher and hip hop artist. He led the regional rehearsal at Mont Albert Primary, teaching enthusiastic students from five schools the final moves to six of the eight dance routines they will perform at the two arena shows on September 9th.
Tickets go on sale June 7 through Ticketek – don’t miss out! The WPS Dance and Choir ensembles will perform at both the 1pm and 6.30pm shows at John Cain Arena.
