Athletics Carnival Guidelines | 13 June 2023

This year our Athletics Carnival will have an overarching theme

“Be in it” encapsulates what each student needs to do for their House to be crowned the Overall Champion House for Athletics, 2023.

With concurrent Competitive and Participation events, there will certainly be many opportunities for all students to ‘Be in it!’ And every event allows students to earn points for their House (even if they help out).

Each House will have its own theme and War Cry. Students are highly encouraged to be a part of this to help their House win the War Cry competition.

“Be in It" – To earn points for your House

“Be in It” – Get involved with your House theme to win the War Cry competition

“Be in It!” – Make sure all spaces in competitive events are filled

“Be in It” – Join in the Participation events

“Be in It” – Help out at an event

“Be in It" – Strive for Age Champion and TCS Selection

Whether you are competing for age champion or joining in the participation event, you just need to “Be in It”

As the old saying goes – “Be in It, To win It”

Competitive Events - Be in it!

Competitive Events include 100m, 200, 400m (2008, 2007, 2006 & older - ONLY), Shot Put, Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump and Triple Jump (2006 & older - ONLY). Students are required to nominate for these events. See below for the process

Extracurricular Sporting – Term 1

Club Netball – Winners!

On Tuesday night St Mary’s played second placed Leps in a one-sided game. St Mary’s took the lead from the start finishing the first quarter 9 – 2. An impressive defensive display by both teams saw St Mary’s gain one goal and Leps not score at all in the second quarter. A steady defence and consistent shooting in the second half resulted in a 14 to 8 win to St Mary’s.

The team remains undefeated for the season. Our next game is at 7.30pm next Tuesday against Cutters.

Rugby League – Winners!

The Year 11/12 Rugby League team defeated Woree SHS with a final score of 22 - 10. It was an even game for the first 15 minutes until Woree started to tire. At this point, the months of training and preparation paid off and our boys were able to maintain and execute the game play. St Mary’s forward pack allowed our team to roll through the middle to achieve great field position and opportunities to score. With strong performances by Ryley Ferguson, Seith Cochrane and Cohen Stoute. Our College would like to welcome our newest member of the Rugby League team, Luke Loewskow who displayed a great performance in his first game. Pending results we are looking strong heading into finals.

The Year 11/12 Rugby League Team will have scheduled bye on Wednesday 7th June.

The Year 9/10 Rugby League team had a scheduled bye in this week’s competition.

Next game is scheduled for Wednesday 7th June competing against Gordonvale SHS at St Mary’s with kick off at 4:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there to support our Year 9/10 Rugby League team.

U15 Boys Bill Turner Soccer Competition – Upcoming Game

The results of the knock out game played on Friday 2nd June competing against CSHS at Perzutti Park will be published in next week’s Bulletin.

  • Read the Notices located on the Student Portal each school day.
  • Bring their water bottle and hat to every Sport lesson. Failure to bring a hat will result in a lunch time detention. If your sport is a fitness-based activity, you will need to bring a towel.

Expectations for students with regards to behaviour and engagement:

  • Participate in the Sport/ Activity to the best of their ability.
  • Represent our College well when travelling off site.
  • Demonstrate respectful and appreciative behaviour towards any outside provider facilitating a program along with a St Mary’s staff member.

TCS & Peninsula Trials

Parents/ carers will need to contact the College regarding any school absence due to students attending Peninsula trials which occur during school hours. TCS trials occur afterschool.

Students are reminded to collect signed Peninsula paperwork from the HPE staffroom to take to their TCS trials. Students will NOT be allowed to trial if they do not have this paperwork.

Students and their families are responsible for:

Logging onto the Student Portal to obtain:

  • TCS Calendar (this tells you when your trial is on)
  • Peninsula paperwork (complete, hand in & collect to take to trial)
  • Notice of Trial (This document is uploaded to TCS Sport app within two weeks of trial)
  • Follow the timelines outlined in the Peninsula Paperwork Process – See below:

Instructions on how to obtain access through the Student Portal have been provided each week at the end of this Bulletin – See below:

  1. Go to the TCS Sport tile in the Student Portal

  2. In the ‘Key Paperwork’ section print the ‘Notice of Trial’ information for your sport trial. These will be uploaded as soon as we receive them. If it is not there for your trial, check again soon or see the sport staff in the HOB staffroom.

  3. Complete the ‘Peninsula Student Permission Details Booklet’ immediately and bring it to the HPE staffroom for signing – paperwork needs to be submitted AT LEAST one week prior to the trial date. If it comes in later than this, we cannot guarantee that students will get it back in time for the trial which can result in them not being allowed to participate.

Students then need to report back to the HPE staffroom within 2 days to collect their signed paperwork and take the Peninsula Student Details Booklet with them to the trial

Sport Coordinator Availability to support students in TCS & Peninsula Paperwork processes:

8:10am – 8:25am: Tuesday – Friday

Second half of Second Lunch: Monday – Friday
