The Next Fortnight of Learning
Literacy
Our phonics focus for the next two weeks will be reviewing the sounds taught in Term 1 and 2. There will also be a focus on reading words containing these sounds with fluency and emotion.
Our reading focus is to identify and understand the purpose of information text features. Students will also research a bird and collect facts to use in their own information report. They will use books, fact files, and videos to find their information.
In writing students will be learning how to construct their own informative piece on an animal before presenting to their peers. These will contain elements such as headings, sub-headings and diagrams.
Maths
Students are developing their understanding of chance by classifying every day events into the categories 'will happen', 'might happen' and 'won't happen'. They will then justify and explain their reasoning. Students will also collect, record, represent and summarise data using graphs. Using their mathematician skills students will practice persistence and problem solving.
Inquiry
Our inquiry unit for the term is called Places and Spaces. Student will investigate elements of community. They will discuss services in their own community and why the community has been designed in a particular way. The students are looking forward to building their own community out of boxes.
The habits of mind associated with the inquiry unit are persisting and thinking and communicating with clarity and precision.
Wellbeing
Our Term 2 topic for Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships is Personal Strengths. During this unit students will learn to identify and describe their personal strengths, explain how these strengths contribute to family and school life. Students will also explore ways to care for others, including ways of making and keeping friends. It can be hard for them to share what they think they are good at so at home it's nice to praise them for non-academic qualities such as being patient, calm or caring.
Terrific team building.
1A and 1B came together to take on a team building challenge. With limited time and resources they tried to make the longest chain possible. Each group had the chance to reflect on their teamwork before taking on the challenge for a second time with amazing improvement shown.
Specialist awards!
1B were bursting with excitement when they received three specialist awards over the past fortnight.
