The Mount Alvernia rugby 7s program continued to grow in 2021 with the girls training consistently since the end of Term 2 focusing on fitness for a physically demanding sport progressing to field sessions which began at the start of Term 3. The girls have given it their all in the lead up to the 2021 Santos All School’s 7s tournament which happened on October 23 & 24. Each team has progressed and improved immeasurably throughout the year giving us great hopes for the 2022 season.

The under 18s came together at the start of this year with multiple girls who have never touched a rugby ball but quickly became competitive and created a great team culture of supporting each other and never giving up. The under 15s have continued to develop their skills coming up against some tough competition but continued to give it their all. Our under 13s came together as a young and energetic team and won both their games on the first day of All Schools, progressing into finals where they placed 7th overall. We’re so proud of everyone’s efforts and can’t wait to see you back in Term 3 next year.

As the 2021 rugby seasons comes to an end, we would like to commend the girls for all their efforts and continuous dedication to the Rugby 7s program this year. Your hard work did not go unnoticed, especially if you were unable to play the games, we’re extremely grateful for your support.

A special to thank all the support staff we have had this year. Thank you to Mr Donohue, Mr Daykin and Glen from Rugby Development Solutions coaching us, Shan and Mr White for doing all the background admin work to make sure we have our great new kit and get the opportunity to train and play, Vicki for being our medic and keeping the girls out on the field and Molly Lythall for being a manager and supporting the program in its entirety.
