SMC super stars shine at Southern SATIS Athletics Carnival

Following on from a successful cross country in Term 2, St Mary's College's athletes continued their success and once again proved their prowess at the Southern SATIS Athletics Carnival, taking out the Junior (Years 7–10) and Aggregate (Years 7–12) shields.

It was a great day across all age groups with the U15 girls finishing in first place, the U13s taking out second, the U14s and U16s finishing third, and the Open Age Group securing second place behind Guilford Young College.

There were some incredible individual achievements with a number of athletes taking home multiple gold, silver and bronze medals across a number of track and field events.

It was great seeing every St Mary’s athlete giving their best, whether it was in the U13 shot put, the U16 high jump or the relays, which always provide a lot of excitement at the end of the day, especially when points are close!

As staff, we could not be more proud of the team and their efforts. Seeing 44 athletes out there having fun with their friends, competing in their respective events, supporting each other and giving it their all is what the spirit of sport at St Mary’s is all about. As we said to them at the start of the day, 'try your best, enjoy the experience and the results will take care of themselves'.

A big thank you as well to our amazing Year 11 and 12 cohort captained by Caitlin McDonald (Head) and Amelie Cox (Deputy), who led by example and supported and encouraged the team throughout the day.

Next up we have the State Athletics Carnival on Saturday 18 September at the Domain and fingers crossed we can have similar results!
