12C - Around the Traps

Josh Carr

Literacy

This week we have been working on recognizing the elements of a story and being able to identify the setting, characters, the problem and how is the problem solved. In writing, we are learning how to write different types of poems.  We have learnt that poetry is anything that expresses ideas or feelings with style. We have completed an acrostic poem, a class I wonder poem and colour poems.

Maths

This week the Maths focus is fractions, we have been looking at halves and quarters. More than just learning what fractions are, we have been looking at how we can cut and break shapes and collections into halves and quarters.

 Inquiry

Our Inquiry Unit this term is about Stimulating Science. Students will consider changes that we experience in our lives through the lens of four different branches of science including; biology, earth and space science, chemistry, and physics. They will make predictions and scientific observations as they conduct experiments. Each student will show what they have learnt by identifying 'science' in their house and recording their understanding of each branch of science. As part of this, we made Play-Doh to show how different items can be put together to create something else.

RE (Religious Education)

Our RE Unit is focusing on prayer and how we can talk to God in many different ways. Students are being helped to understand that prayer is an expression of God’s relationship with each of us and that we can pray for different reasons such as prayers of praise, thanks, forgiveness and petition.
