News

Welcome back, everyone! WOW!! It’s a breath of fresh air being back in the classroom with the children and a pleasure seeing all of their smiling faces back at school. I have been impressed with the way that the 4 / 5’s are getting back into our routine and engaging themselves in the learning provided.

This week we have discussed the concept of I-Time with students. The 5/6 students have been given the choice between I-Time and Social Enterprise for the last weeks of the term. I-Time will involve students making a plan to create something here at school. It could be a billy cart or a piece of art but the possibilities are far-reaching. They must plan before starting and they will be reflecting as they go. Others will attempt to create a small business in the remaining weeks that will hopefully mean they can sell at the Beechworth Christmas Market.

Each of the 4/5/6 students will bring home a Stride for Education sponsorship sheet this week. Please support them if you can.

La De Dah Day is this Friday. With the Melbourne Cup next week, students are asked to dress up for a day at the races. "Races Chic" is the theme!

Literacy

The children are focussing on the concept of ‘determining the importance’ of information in reading and are using this skill to summarise texts. They have been participating in guided reading sessions, novel studies, vocabulary activities and word work.

We have finally started to write our information texts on the topics wombats, praying mantis, bears and gorillas. The children have found some really interesting information and are working on making a plan to engage their readers using a range of techniques in their information writing. We look forward to sharing these with you all!

Maths

The work on Number & Algebra has continued this week. Many of the students took an A3 Times Tables laminate on Monday. Stick this somewhere they can see it regularly. Test them at the dinner table!

Life Relationships

Last week we attempted to match some reproductive system words with their definitions. There were some strange words and some even stranger definitions. I gave students the opportunity to write anonymous questions on some paper and pop them in the "letterbox" at the end of the lesson. (If they didn't want to write a question they could just fold up the paper and pop it in the box). We answered those this week. This system will continue as it seems like there are heaps of questions!
