Teaching and Learning
Room 4
In Room 4 recently, we have been practicing data collection. The students helped in organising questions to be asked amongst their peers. Topics included favourite fruits, favourite lessons at school and favourite sports. The class had to mark tallies and then convert those tallies into graphs. We explore making Column and Bar graphs as methods of displaying data for analysing. The students showed impressive efforts to approach everyone else in the class to question. At the end we met up as a group to compare how accurate our data collection had been and what questions could be answer from looking at our graphs.

Did you know that in Japanese the days of the week each represent an element of nature? They all end in 'Yobi' which stands for 'day', however the beginning of each word has a different meaning.
Rm 3, 4, 5 & 6 have been learning to say and read the days of the week in Japanese. We have played a range of different rhyming and recognition games to learn both the order and how to read them.
We have had lots of fun and hopefully we have the rhyme stuck in our heads now!

PE News
Last Thursday West Beach Primary School had 1 boys and 1 girls team compete in the Ekiden Relay, where teams of 6 had to complete 11.1km course. Each leg of the race had different distances. The course was surrounding the River Torrens close to Bonython Park and thankfully the rain held off for an enjoyable and exciting afternoon of racing.
Our girls had some excellent individual runs, including Lara Scutchings who had the second quickest time for the 2.8km leg. The girls finished in 5th place and should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
The boys spent most of the race in 2nd position, just behind Brighton PS who had won the previous 2 years. Zane Rooney managed to fight for first place in the 5th leg of the race which made for an incredibly exciting 1km sprint for our final runner Kohta. He certainly didn’t disappoint, running 1km at a cracking 3:41 minute pace (seriously fast!) and the boys came home with the win.
Another great day for West Beach PS, well done everyone!

Mountain Bike Championship
Friday, Week 1
A first-time entry for West Beach PS, and a fantastic event for those who have never experienced Mountain Bike racing. Held at O’Halloran Hill with over 400 riders in the U13 and U15 categories, the atmosphere was incredible. Riders from all over the state were able to showcase their skills, and there was plenty of it as riders demonstrated mono’s, skids and agility to wow the crowd and gain positions in the field.
Riley, Diesel, Max and Lachie represented our school in great spirits, pushing themselves to the limit to complete as many laps as possible within the 2.5 hours. There were crashes, tumbles, bikes clogged up with mud and hills so steep that riders were forced to run up the hill. Whilst it was challenging, the boys had a great day. I can certainly see why this is one of the fastest growing sports in SA right now. Thanks to school sport SA for hosting the event.
