SSV Virtual Track and Field Competition

In 2017 I was lucky to watch Usain Bolt run at Lakeside stadium in Albert Park. Even though he wasn't running as fast as he did when he broke the 100m record in 2009 - 9.58 seconds, he was so fast!

A random girl photobombed my selfie with Usain. He was so relaxed and friendly.

This Youtube video features Usain Bolt and regular people trying to run 100m. In fairness to these people, they are not wearing sports clothes and the 100 metres is not in a straight line. At least they had a go!

Regular People Try To Beat The Fastest Man In The World

School Sport Victoria is running a fantastic competition for all students to compete in.

Thanks to the following students who had a go at the virtual cross country competition:

Shanisse

Priya

Mia

Marc

Sajan

Yoshane - he completed three runs - what a champ!

Thanks to just 6 students, St Simon’s came 37th in the whole state of Victoria. When you take into account the number of students in our school, we got up to 18th!

Now School Sport Victoria has a new competition that anyone can be involved in.

You can run 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m or 1500m.

You can walk 800m or 1500m.

You can try the standing broad jump. Start and finish with two feet

You can try the standing triple jump.  Start with your hop, then the step, jump and land on two feet.

(When you are doing the jumps, it just means that you are not having a run up. These are good to do inside, especially if it is raining.  Measure to the back of your heels.)

Use a tennis ball to do the shot put challenge.

There are Olympic events called Pentathlon, Heptathlon and Decathlon. It’s when you combine  events to make your total score. For the SSV combine, you need to run 100m, perform a standing long jump, tennis ball shot put and the 800m run.

You can upload your results to: https://www.ssv.vic.edu.au/Pages/SSVVirtualTrackandField.aspx

Or you can email me your results and I’ll upload them for you. Just tell me your results and your age.

St Simon Swimming @ Home Resource

St Simon the Apostle is proud to provide parents and students from Prep to Year 4 the Swimming @ Home resource. We understand it is hard to practise swimming techniques without a pool available. Therefore, this virtual program will provide students a way to practise fundamental water skills in the comforts of your home. We invite all parents to encourage their child/ren to partake in the lessons. Once your child has completed a lesson, the form on the website can be completed and certificates will be issued stating the courses completed by your child/ren. Good luck and give it your very best!

More information regarding our swimming program will be announced shortly.

The Victorian Water Safety Certificate practical sessions for our Year 6 students are currently in the process of being rebooked for next term with Paul Sadler.
