Remote Learning - Response to Feedback

At South Melbourne Primary School, we pride ourselves on our wonderful Specialist program. In the earlier stages of this lockdown, we structured the Specialist program thinking that it wouldn’t last as long as it has. As always, we are continually evaluating our programs with a view to improvement. 

We thank those who made suggestions in the recent parent/carer survey. We have endeavored to factor the opinions of our community into our decision making. As always, when receiving feedback, some requests have been met and others have not.  Thank you for understanding that it is incredibly challenging to meet the needs of all. 

The increasing demands of onsite staffing has also impacted the Specialist program. However, we feel that we can make adjustments for Term 4 that will benefit student outcomes. Here is a summary of what it will look like:

• The Prep-2 students will be separated into individual year levels (cohort)
• Each cohort will have one daily specialist subject, except for Fridays
• Friday sessions will have a focus on wellbeing
• Every student will receive feedback once per week based on the learning goal of a lesson and may be asked to do a brief follow up
• The feedback will be provided by a different specialist each week
• Feedback will be provided to students within 3 working days of the lesson

We trust that these changes will deepen the learning experiences for all students.
