REC News

Dear Parents and Carers,
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. The Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. The Holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. October includes the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on 7th October. The feast day was established by Pope Saint Pius V on the anniversary of the victory at Lepanto on 7 October 1571. The naval victory was attributed to the Virgin Mary whose intercession was entreated through the recitation of the Holy Rosary. The best way for us to celebrate the month is to pray the Rosary every day.
Mission Month
This month also marks World Mission Month, a celebration of the global work of the Church and the dedication of missionaries, both religious and lay, as they reach out and support children and communities in need around the world.

Socktober
Each year, schools across our Diocese raise money for Catholic Mission as part of Mission Month. This year our school has joined Socktober and we are raising money for disadvantaged children in Thailand. Socktober for Mission Month encourages students across Australia to make a difference for their brothers and sisters overseas through our shared understanding of the values inherent in the world game of soccer.
Our Junior Joeys Representatives will be organising and hosting the Socktober event day at school. The Socktober Event Day is the Socktober Shootout event. Based on the concept of the soccer penalty shootout, which famously sent Australia to the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the Socktober Shootout allows students to have some fun with the sockballs they have made throughout the Socktober Challenge.
This year, we have set a goal to raise $2000 via our online fundraising platform. Families can register their children to help raise money or they can donate directly to our school page via https://www.socktober.org.au/fundraisers/StJosephsPrimarySchoolWeeWaa.
Families can also share our fundraising page via Facebook and other social media to reach out to other people who may be willing to support this worthy cause.
We hope you can support us in our fundraising efforts this year.
