Junior School

I have enjoyed a very warm welcome to the Junior School, at both the Wentworth Falls and Springwood campuses. I am very much enjoying getting to know all of the students and families in this wonderful school.

To start the year, we have been talking about ‘Hope’. The last two years, and indeed the start to this one, have been challenging for us as we live with COVID restrictions and seemingly ever-changing guidelines. This can be daunting for young children who have little understanding of the finer details, but certainly know that their lives have been disrupted!

In our classrooms, and as we chat with students in the playground, we are talking about our hopes for the year. We are expecting good things! Staff are excited about the growth and learning that will happen this year, and so are the students. Some of the things they hope for are:

“I hope I can shoot a basketball hoop by the end of the year, because my brother can!”

“I hope that COVID is OVER and that  our class is the best class in the school.”

“I hope I can get back to netball.”

“I hope that my friends and family stay safe against this virus.”

“I hope that people can travel safely this year.”

“I hope I can go to the skate park with my friends again.”

“ I hope to get vaccinated and go to Hawaii.”

“I hope my chicken doesn’t die, because my last one did.”

“I hope to go on school camp this year.”

“I’m hoping this is going to be the best year ever at school.”

I love that the children thought globally, with hopes for everyone to be safe and well, and that they thought about the importance of the smaller things in their own lives – their sport, their pets, their school and their friends. Teachers are helping students to identify which of their hopes could translate to become learning goals and how the students might achieve them this year.

As we continue through this year, I hope we have lots of opportunities to share and celebrate the learning of our students together. My hope, and my sincere prayers, are for the safety and flourishing of our school community.

In hope,

Mrs Rachael J Newton
